DESIGN DECISION · RESOURCEFUL CABINETRY
Custom character.
Considered cost.
An Inside Plans approach
One way I keep a project on budget is to look beyond stock cabinetry.
I reimagine pieces such as old dressers and china cabinets, separating and adapting their sections for use as lower and upper cabinets. The result is a custom approach that helps control costs while bringing the era and character of a home into the design.
Creative thinking.
See a new purpose in an existing piece, from a dresser base to the upper section of a china cabinet.
Budget-aware decisions.
Make sourcing, adaptation, and finishing part of the budget from the start.
A sense of belonging.
Choose proportions and details that connect the new work with the home’s roots.
TWO PIECES. ANOTHER CHAPTER.
Furniture, reimagined.
For this project, the upper sections of two vintage china cabinets became wall-mounted cabinetry. Explore each piece to see its own transformation.
The three-door cabinet.
Beside the sink.
A familiar piece. A new purpose.
The glass-front upper section was separated from its base and adapted beside the sink, bringing the warmth and character of furniture into the cabinetry.

The lower section of one cabinet became an end-of-bed bench in a bedroom—another way to carry a useful piece into a new chapter.
